Can Poland exist outside of Poland?

In the nineteenth century, Poland was more of an idea than a territory. The various activities of exiled Poles exerted a strong influence on those who stayed in the country. For a nation without a state, émigré successes and indeed even every mention of Poland was a source of pride.
